International Business Machines pushes for transparent development in enterprise AI

At the technology summit, International Business Machines' Cox presented a persuasive rationale for open innovation in enterprise machine learning. The speaker, Vice President of AI models and director at the joint MIT and IBM artificial intelligence laboratory, stressed the significance of transparency in innovation, notably in the modern AI landscape.
Cox highlighted the nuanced nature of openness in AI, challenging the binary understanding of the principle. He observed the burgeoning network of accessible frameworks from diverse origins, including technology corporations, academic institutions, and nation-states.
However, he expressed reservations about the standard of transparency in numerous Large Language Models, noting that a number of them offer barely more than a "bag of numbers" without openness in their creation techniques.
